On the Home Front

Well here I am in the US.

So initially I had planned my trip so I could do my interview for the JET program. They were being continually vague about exactly when the interview was going to be. Finally I contacted them and found out that I had been cut from the running and had not made an interview. Well, I was pretty vex about that. Even though I had been having second thoughts as to whether that was what I wanted to do, I would have appreciated being able to make that decision myself, not to mention that HALF of applicants get an interview. That means I’m in the bottom half. My best guess is that they disqualified me on some technicality, because I really had their qualifications wrapped up. Needless to say, this episode will go down in the Great Book of Wrongs That Have Been Done to Caroline. This might even topple the current Greatest Wrong of being cut from the softball team in High School.

But anyways, here I am. It’s strange so far. Things are different, yet the same. It feels like home, yet it doesn’t. Lucky me arrived with a massive cold, so I haven’t done much yet; I haven’t even been able to conquer my list of foods and restaurants because I have no appetite and I can’t taste.

Upon walking in the door, I literally fell over at the sight of Kitty and Cosmo. They are so incredibly huge. At least three times the size of Cheeto. They do nothing all day, at least Cheeto is busy.

Today I’m going to Brookfield to see if I can get my computer fixed, find some supplies to take back to SLU and bask in the commercialism.

Surprising and Interesting Things So Far:

  • Drivers are incredibly rude and selfish. People say drivers in St. Lucia are rude, but they’re not.

  • Vanity license plates.

  • The kindness of random strangers. This seems to evaporate as soon as they get in their cars though. I the insurance people on the phone were really nice.
